Your First Sugaring Appointment: Everything You Need to Know

Hello Beautiful Soul,🌷

Thinking about trying sugaring for the first time?

Maybe you’ve been shaving for years. Maybe you’ve tried waxing. Or maybe you’re simply curious about a gentler way to keep your skin smooth.

The first appointment can feel a little intimidating - especially when we’re talking about Brazilian or Hollywood sugaring.

So let me take away some of the mystery.

Here is everything I would want you to know before your first appointment.

Before your first sugaring appointment

The most important thing is simple:

Let your hair grow.

For the sugar paste to grip the hair properly, it needs enough length. Around 5–7 mm is usually a good starting point - roughly 3 weeks after shaving for many people, although everyone’s hair grows differently.

Please don’t shave immediately before your appointment. And if your hair is very long, don’t worry - you don’t need to create a perfect haircut down there before coming to see me. 😄 We can take care of what is needed.

A day or two before your appointment, gentle exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells around the hairs. Avoid aggressive scrubs or irritating products immediately beforehand - we want the skin calm, not angry.

On the day, arrive with clean, dry skin and avoid applying heavy creams or oils to the area.

And wear something comfortable afterwards, particularly for intimate sugaring. Your skin will appreciate a little breathing room.

Does sugaring hurt?

Let’s answer the question everyone actually wants to ask. 😄

Yes, you will feel it.

We are removing hair from the root, so I would never tell you that sugaring is completely painless.

The first appointment - particularly after years of shaving - can often feel the most sensitive.

But your treatment should never become a test of how much pain you can tolerate.

I work according to your body and your comfort. We can pause, change the technique or simply take a moment whenever you need it.

There is absolutely no prize for suffering silently on my treatment table. 💗

What actually happens during sugaring?

Sugar paste is made from a few simple ingredients, traditionally sugar, water and an acid such as lemon juice.

Unlike traditional waxing, the paste is applied against the direction of hair growth and removed in the natural direction of growth.

This technique can help reduce unnecessary hair breakage and is one of the reasons I love sugaring.

The paste also provides gentle surface exfoliation as it lifts away dead skin cells, leaving the skin feeling beautifully smooth.

And please don’t feel embarrassed about intimate sugaring.

For me, a Brazilian or Hollywood is simply a treatment I perform professionally. Bodies are bodies. Hair is hair. You don’t need to apologise, explain or feel self-conscious.

What should you expect afterwards?

Immediately afterwards, your skin may look slightly pink or feel sensitive. This is especially common after your first treatment and usually settles.

For roughly the first 24–48 hours, treat the area gently.

Avoid very hot baths, saunas and steam rooms, intense exercise and swimming while the skin is still sensitive. For intimate areas, it’s also sensible to avoid friction (including sex) until any tenderness or redness has settled.

Skip strong exfoliants, fragranced products and anything else likely to irritate freshly sugared skin.

Then, once the skin feels completely calm again, gentle regular exfoliation can become your best friend.

It helps prevent dead skin from building up around new hairs and can reduce the chance of ingrown hairs.

And then comes the part I really love: consistency

One sugaring appointment gives you smooth skin.

Regular sugaring is where you may start noticing the difference in your regrowth.

Hair grows in cycles, which means not every hair is at exactly the same stage during your first appointment. This is why your first few treatments can feel a little unpredictable.

With consistent appointments, many clients find that regrowth feels softer and finer, rather than the blunt, prickly feeling you get after shaving.

Appointments can also become more manageable as you establish a routine.

But there’s one little rule that makes a big difference:

Try not to shave between appointments.

A razor cuts the hair at skin level and interrupts the routine we’re trying to establish.

If you see a few hairs appearing before your next appointment, resist the temptation. 😄 Let them grow.

How often should you come?

For many clients, around every 4 weeks is a useful starting point, but there is no perfect schedule for everybody.

Your hair growth, area being treated, hormones and previous hair-removal habits all influence how quickly you need your next appointment.

We’ll find the rhythm that works for your body.

And please don’t judge sugaring only by your first appointment.

Your first treatment after years of shaving is the beginning, not the finished result.

Give your skin and hair a little time.

Give your body consistency.

And see how it responds.

My final advice for your first appointment?

Don’t overthink it.

You don’t need perfect skin.

You don’t need to be embarrassed about hair.

You don’t need to know what to do.

And you definitely don’t need to apologise for your body.

Just come as you are.

I’ll guide you through the rest.

Because sugaring, for me, isn’t only about removing hair.

It’s about helping you feel comfortable, cared for and beautifully at home in your own skin.

With love,
