What happens when you stop shaving and stay consistent?
Hello Beautiful Soul,🌷
You had your first sugaring appointment.
Your skin feels smooth, you survived the first “okay… that was definitely a sensation” moment 😄 - and now comes the question:
What happens next?
One of the things I always explain to my clients is that your first sugaring appointment is only the beginning.
Sugaring can give you beautifully smooth skin after a single treatment. But if you want to discover what regular sugaring can really be like, consistency matters.
And there is a simple reason why.
Your hair doesn’t all grow at the same time
Every hair on your body goes through its own growth cycle.
Some hairs are actively growing. Others are resting. Some are preparing to shed, while new ones are developing underneath the skin.
This means that during your first sugaring appointment, the hairs we remove are not all at exactly the same stage of growth.
That’s why you may notice some new hairs appearing sooner than expected after your first treatment.
It doesn’t mean the sugaring “didn’t work”.
They’re often simply hairs that weren’t visible or ready to be removed at your previous appointment.
This is also why your first few appointments can feel a little unpredictable.
What happens after a few regular appointments?
When you continue sugaring without shaving between treatments, many clients begin to notice that their regrowth feels different.
Because sugaring removes the hair from the root rather than cutting it at skin level, you don’t get the same blunt edge created by a razor.
As the new hair emerges, it can therefore feel softer and less prickly than shaved regrowth.
Over time, some people also notice that certain hairs become finer or less noticeable with repeated removal from the root.
But every body is different.
Hormones, genetics, age, medications and individual hair-growth patterns can all influence your results.
There is no magic number of appointments after which everybody suddenly has less hair.
Bodies simply don’t work like that.
The biggest mistake after your first sugaring appointment?
Reaching for the razor. 😄
I understand the temptation.
A few hairs appear between appointments and suddenly that razor in the bathroom starts looking very attractive.
But if you’ve decided to give regular sugaring a proper chance, leave them alone.
Shaving cuts the hair at the surface of the skin.
It doesn’t make your hair biologically thicker or create more follicles - that’s a myth - but it does create that familiar blunt, stubbly feeling as the hair grows back.
It can also make your regrowth pattern feel less predictable again when you’re trying to establish a regular sugaring routine.
So if you see a few lonely hairs between appointments?
Let them live their little lives. 😂
We’ll get them next time.
How often should you have sugaring?
For many of my clients, around every four weeks is a good starting point.
But four weeks isn’t a magic rule.
Some areas grow faster than others, and every woman has her own rhythm.
After a few appointments, it becomes much easier to understand your hair-growth pattern and decide on the interval that works best for you.
The goal isn’t to chase every single hair the second it appears.
It’s to establish a consistent routine.
What about ingrown hairs?
Regular sugaring is only part of good skin care.
What you do between appointments matters too.
Once your skin has completely settled after sugaring, gentle exfoliation can help remove excess dead skin cells that may otherwise make it harder for new hairs to reach the surface.
Keeping the skin moisturised can also help maintain a healthy, comfortable skin barrier.
But please - don’t attack your skin. 😄
More scrubbing does not mean better results.
Aggressive exfoliation, picking and digging for hairs can irritate the skin and may make things worse.
Gentle and regular beats aggressive every time.
Will regular sugaring eventually stop my hair from growing?
This is a question I hear a lot.
And the answer is:
Sugaring is not permanent hair removal.
I would never promise you that after a certain number of appointments your hair will disappear forever.
Repeatedly removing hair from the root can be associated with finer or less noticeable regrowth for some people over time, but the degree of change varies enormously from person to person.
So my advice is simple:
Don’t start sugaring because somebody promised you that you’ll eventually have no hair.
Choose it because you enjoy the way your skin feels, you prefer it to shaving or waxing, and it works well for your body.
Anything else is a bonus.
So what can you expect from consistency?
After your first appointment, enjoy the smoothness - but don’t panic if some new hairs appear sooner than others.
After your first few regular appointments, your regrowth pattern may begin to feel more predictable, and you may notice softer, less prickly regrowth.
With long-term consistency, many clients find that sugaring simply becomes part of their routine: appointments become easier to plan, they understand how their own hair grows, and some notice finer or less noticeable regrowth over time.
And somewhere along the way, you may realise that you haven’t thought about your razor in months. 😄
My advice?
Give sugaring time.
Don’t judge it entirely by your first appointment.
Don’t chase perfection.
Don’t shave between sessions if you want to establish a consistent routine.
Take care of your skin between appointments.
And most importantly, pay attention to your own results rather than somebody else’s.
Because there is no universal schedule and no universal body.
There is only the routine that works for you.
Consistency doesn’t mean perfection.
It simply means giving your body enough time to show you what works.
With love,
Olena💖
